The strategic innovations course I’m currently taking through Vanderbilt University is a complement to this book.

I love the metaphor. But in the end, this book feels like one more “how to be awesome” business book. It’s better than many, but there are others that more adequately and effectively show what makes for health and success.

Read this one as part of a workshop at the office. Interesting way to reshape strategic thinking but this is really not in my wheelhouse.

As a business book, I would recommend this title for organisations looking to shift their business out of a rut where they may not be performing as they would like to. It's more a workbook, so you'll need a physical/digital copy, plus the bonus materials it mentions, to get the full benefit of it.

I listened to the audio book and would not recommend this as you can't pull over and make lists of things, or remember all the things you should be doing when you have your next Blue Ocean Shift team meeting. Also, the narrator is a little slow in his pacing and I found his regional accent hard to work with. My 3* is for the audio version, but I would give 4* or even 5* for the physical book after I could implement the advice.

Organized, simple process for getting an organization to shift directions. Not like I've tried to implement it, but it all makes sense.

Per usual with any book I’ve been assigned for my MBA program, the information provided is growing increasingly out of date and fails to keep up with tech and sociological developments. This book would have been helpful pre-2010 but we’re living in a different world. And we are reaching a point where we should be learning about business on a more comprehensive scale.
On a more literary review note, the book relies heavily on out of date business strategy anecdotes to describe theory. Without really going into the theory itself. It’s comes off as a business catch all with no real critical substance.

Just an extended version with how to do things, at least in my opinion.
