I was really hoping to like this book more than I did but I had some trouble with its tone. I couldn’t tell if it was supposed be a rom-com, a spicy why-choose, or a mysterious fantasy. I guess it was supposed to be a mix of the three but it suffered for it

I found the suspense was fairly predictable and that plots that could have been more exciting got rushed in order to fit in another steamy scene

I also struggled with the dialogue, which seemed a bit juvenile to me. We have 30 year old males saying “shit sticks” and a 27 year old female calling something the “the bomb” unironically. Then there were lines like “she couldn’t sugar coat something if she was holding a 5-pound bag of sugar”. I found myself cringing a lot

That said, I did enjoy the characters and their dynamics, especially with the M/M pairings and the different personalities. I think this book could have worked better if it were longer and was a standalone with a full mystery rather than a series.

Unfortunately I’m not intrigued enough to continue with the series

It's okay. Not worth continuing the series though. Great smut.

Little predictable bc I’ve read a bunch of similar stories but really like the intrigue, our main characters, the magic and world building. V intrigued about subsequent books

Interesting read… I was intrigued how it would go when I saw the first two reviews were one star but so many people had recommended this series that I decided to try it anyway. It started off slow but I found myself enjoying it!

The scenes between Fish and Sloane were right up my alley, and adding Saige to it was definitely fun! It’ll be interesting to see how the group all blend in the coming books, and where mystery man falls in the grand scheme as well.

It took awhile for me to find the funny, but her Gran is a damn hoot and her antics definitely made me laugh.

I also saw the epilogue cliffhanger coming from miles away, totally called it, but it certainly makes for an epic little twist. This series has been praised so much within my PNR romance world so I’m excited to read more!

Overall I really liked this book! I was a fan of the characters and storyline. I took off a star because it was a bit too predictable. Hopefully there's a few more twists and turns in the next book.

The FMC was annoying in her attempts to be quirky. I just could not get into it.
