This is a slow burn full of craziness and love. Worth the read. For all you believers in love and magic….pick up this book.

I can’t really decide how I feel about this book. I did like it, but I couldn’t help feeling like Theo pretty much died the night of his first accident. His life was pretty much taken over by Cass at that point. What about Theo? What about Colleen? Early on, I suspected maybe Theo needed a heart transplant and had gotten Cass’s heart. That would’ve made more sense to me rather than more the paranormal element which in personally not into.

Was really digging the paranormal vibe of this book. I figured out the twist early on but I was into it! Wasn’t a fan of the ending, though. It felt so rushed and like it was turning into a whole different book, my neck hurts from the whiplash.

4.5/5 Narration Duet by Troy Duran and Tara Langella
Tropes:
Romantic Suspense
Mystery
Enemies to Lovers
Small Town
Widow FMC
Injured Hero
Mute MMC
Mutual Past Trauma
Slow Burn
Deeply Romantic
Star-Crossed...kinda
This was absolutely beautiful. If you are a "hopeless" romantic, this story is for you. The book tells you what is going on right away, so there was no big plot twist. However, that does not bother me. For me, this was about the journey of star-crossed lovers making their way back to each other. Megan's husband was killed in a car accident 5 years ago and moved to a small town to make her and her husband's dream of fixing up a Victorian house come true. There she meets Theo, a mute contractor, with trauma of his own, who seems to dislike her from the moment she arrives in town.
This did remind me a lot of Pen Pal. This was written first, though. The FMC is a widower with a similar personality. The MMC is a grumpy carpenter. Megan is fixing up a house. There were just things that over lapped.
The story of this book was what I expected the plot twist to be in Pen Pal.

Yikes! This was not my jam, but I can see why it may be to others.
This was the third book of JT Geissinger’s I read for my contemporary romance / new adult author experiment, and I must say I was left dissatisfied. What I saw as strengths in her previous books I’ve read of her, we’re nonexistent in this book. What I enjoyed from Geissinger’s stories were the great banter between her main couples, and the tangible chemistry that kept me engrossed in the material. Midnight Valentine was very much lacking both of those elements, and left me with more questions than answers.
I thought the idea for this book had a promising premise, reincarnation and star crossed lovers come to mind. But I guess a lot of the story relied on finding the heroine’s previous love interest romantic-whether you like it or not. For some reason, the fact that Theo was compelled to do the same things the heroine’s late husband did because he heard a manifestation of him telling Theo too was a bit....well...creepy. The book wants you to believe that Theo magically acquiring the memories of a dead man’s wife and hearing voices in his head to do things for her, is this magical form of earth shattering love but it comes off as just too far fetched. I would’ve rather maybe Theo just be her real “soul mate” and the previous husband was just an obstacle they had to go through to find each other. I’m sorry but the whole thing of Theo being both the person he was before the accident AND her dead husband-it’s too weird! Especially how he “damaged his vocal chords” in the accident five years ago and he endanger up with the ex husband’s voice? I guess the book wants you to believe that Theo and her ex are the same person but I’m sorry the book has all of these other characters talking about who Theo was BEFORE the accident. So it’s not like Theo just appeared out of nowhere as the this person, and he also holds no resemblance to the ex husband just his memories which are enough for him to love the heroine before ever meeting her?
See this is what I mean about the book asking more questions than answers. I had a feeling I wasn’t going to like this because from the moment the heroine said: “I’ll never move on from my late husband.” I knew we were dealing with a reincarnation which....why? Why couldn’t she have just fallen for Theo without any of the weird ex husband stuff? Also, let’s suppose there’s an afterlife in this universe the book takes place in-is she going to find peace with Theo or her ex husband for the rest of eternity? Because again, the book makes it clear that Theo didn’t just pop into existence when her previous husband died, he lived an entire life before that without any interference from the heroine. But this dead guy’s memories and voice haunted him for years and I’m supposed to believe their the same person??? BUT THEY’RE NOT! Ugh maybe I’m interpreting the story incorrectly but regardless I didn’t like the book. I didn’t see the chemistry between this couple, and it just was a lot of Megan trying to get through to Theo and him continuing to ignore her. He brushed off her questions, and told her the two of them couldn’t be friends, and it’s really just 100 or so pages of this until they just decide to have sex and not talk about anything. She doesn’t even know very much about him, besides what the townsfolk tell her about him but really Theo just appears to put out fires, beat up romantic rivals, and silently brood until they have sex. Until then he checks himself into a mental institution because of the “voices and demons in his head,” that Megan realizes are her ex husband which WTF?
Overall, JT Geissinger is a good writer, and I’ve seen her write some awesome love stories. Midnight Valentine was just a flop though, but it did make me want to read her other books to see if they are different from what I saw in this.
So, will I continue read from her after this? Yes, and I even downloaded Wicked Sexy by her on my Kindle earlier this week so I’m looking forward to reading it. Is she necessarily an “auto buy” author? No, but I do think I will have to do further reading to be sure. If Midnight Valentine is her only flop then that might change.

I absolutely adored this book. The characters were all so likable. you could almost see each scene. I definitely related to Megan, she definitely had my thought process but the magic between her and Theo was truly amazing. it definitely gave me the warm and cozies.
