A good story, though it is pretty full of cliches and outdated references.

John Puller Jr is an investigator in the Army, where everyone thinks he should be doing more as the son of a famous army man. He is called to a tiny town in West Virginia where things aren’t what they seem.

The following story keeps you going cause you feel invested and have to know what’s next. There is an interesting cast of characters surrounding John which I would hope would come out in subsequent stories.

I didn't like the ending but it was a thoroughly entertaining book.

Wow….just wow!🤯
My mind was blown with this book! I literally was on the edge of my seat the whole time listening to the audiobook. This was such a good book! John Puller was so cool and his knowledges and skills were awesome!

I loved the way he thought and how he cared even if he acted indifferent! He was such a down to earth person even if others would think otherwise.

The case he was on was so fascinating and I loved learning more and more details and clues about it.

I did end up crying toward the end of the series because of an unexpected tragedy. I was really hoping for something good but when this happened my idea was thrown out the window.

Definitely can’t wait to get to the next book in the series! To see how this has affected Puller in the long run.

I don't know why I don't read David Baldacci more often! Loved this book!!! Until the end. Still loved it, just not the way I wanted it to turn out!!!

John Puller is one of Baldacci's best characters in my opinion...right behind Atlee Pine. I would have given this book 5 stars if the ending did not put the resolution of the investigation conveniently to last 15 pages.

Good story. I agree with many comments about this being a Jack Reacher wannabe. One should create their own characters or give credit where due.

a good baldacci. Puller seems to have every piece of military gear there is in his trunk

I think that Baldacci out Jack Reacher's Lee Child on this one. Decent read. Like the new character...hope Tom Cruise doesn't discover John Puller.

Liked it a lot.
Puller is an interesting and engaging character and his family dynamics was interesting as well.
Real shame Sam died I really liked her as a character and her and Puller had chemistry. Sad they didn't even have a chance to consumate their burgeoning romance.

Pretty enjoyable read. Liked that it was set in WV, though I'm not sure why it was necessary to create a completely fictional county. Several reviews compare the main character, John Puller, to Lee Childs' Jack Reacher. Maybe so, but immitation is the highest form of flattery, right? And if you like Reacher, you'll probably like Puller also. I like that he is a "good egg" and a cat person. What can I say?
