This book was almost as fun as the first. It's not correspondence between the ladies -- now it is the text of a deposition by Cecelia and the commonplace book of Kate -- but it is still very fun and the magic is lovely and the mystery intriguing. The politics of the book are a little black-and-white for my taste (the pro-Napoleon folks are all conniving murderers), but I still enjoyed it immensely.

Although I didn't enjoy it as much as it's predecessor, The Grand Tour was a fun, swoony jaunt following Cecy, Kate, and their husbands on their nonsensical quest throughout Western Europe. The plot was definitely... meandering, but the highlight was the interactions of the main characters, particularly Thomas and Kate. Cecy really took a backseat in this one, but that could be because her account was told through a deposition, and her character wasn't given the freedom that the lettter format of the previous book gave. Kate suffered as well--- she was no longer confident and both were highly dependent on their husbands, when they managed just fine on their own before.

Overall, if you enjoyed Cecilia and the Chocolate Pot, this is worth picking up.

Pretty mediocre. A real bummer since the first book was so delightful.

This book was okay, but it's definitely the worst Patricia C. Wrede book I've read so far. It lost a lot of the charm of the first Sorcery & Cecelia book and apparently replaced it with a confusing plot and an array of flat side characters. I was never quite sure what was going on-- only that I wished it would get to the point. A lot of the same quirks of the first book were included in this one, too, like an intriguing magic system and fun historical references. If it had been half as long I likely would have enjoyed it twice as much.

If you liked Harry Potter you may enjoy this. It's young adult, but still a good read. The main characters are two female cousins with magical abilities, who become involved in nefarious goings on inadvertently, and have to figure out what to do about it.

It's a fun, fast and easy read.

Disappointing. Cecy and Kate have been reduced to good little Regency wives. Their husbands are SO tedious and are constantly stopping them from doing anything interesting despite the fact that they are perfectly capable. Seriously, these men. James may be the actual most boring man on earth; I can't imagine what Cecy sees in him. Thomas has a bit more personality but is still overbearing and bossy. Neither of them is at all happy to see his wife do anything interesting at all. I hope Cecy and Kate get more active roles in the third book!

I really likd this book. I'll review it individually or the whole series

4.5 stars - not quite as good as the first book but still fun

The sequel to [b:Sorcery and Cecilia] is significantly less charming than its predecessor. I had a hard time remember which character was which, and who was married to who. I had an equally difficult time caring about the plot. From Kelly's review of the third book, it doesn't look like the series gets much better. Save yourself the effort and reread Dealing with Dragons or Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norell.
