Possibly my favorite book in the series so far, and yes I have read them all!!

Sara Lockhart is not just a world class forensic anthropologist, she's a woman with a passion for helping families find closure that was inspired by her father, a Coast Guard man who went on many search & recovery missions. Sara's love life is nowhere near as successful or as impressive as her work credentials. After getting cold feet before her wedding a few years ago she's gotten used to sleeping in an empty bed. That all changes when she meets Det. Nolan Hess.

Nolan is a stand-up guy, Sara tells him so straight to his face, but that doesn't stop him from wanting to get Sara in his bed sooner rather than later. But his first priority, his only focus, has to be finding a missing hiker with deep connections to his home town. With Sara on the case he's sure they'll find answers soon, but what they end up finding instead is Nolan's worst nightmare. A serial killer working in his sleepy hometown.

Nolan and Sara have chemistry from the start, and their shared determination to get families answers and stop a murdering psycho in their own backyard brings them together when Sara's doubts about starting a relationship flare up. In the end, love conquers all, and a killer ends up right where he belongs.

The suspense overshadowed the romance, and I’m not disappointed at all

Laura Griffin's Tracers series is an automatic purchase for me each and every time! She didn't disappoint with this romantic thriller featuring a forensic anthropologist, a sexy small town detective, a missing woman and mystery unraveling when bodies are found in a Texas gorge. EEP. Makes me want to re-read all the Tracers books!

You would think that when an author hits #13 in a series that the reader would see signs of the series flagging, cliches creeping in, and fatigue, but Stone Cold Heart with its driving level of suspense and teasing romance between Sara and Nolan feels more like a book from a fresh new series.

I know that when I pick up a Laura Griffin novel that I had better have hours set aside because I won’t want to stop reading and that was the case with Stone Cold Heart. The novel opens with the kidnapping of 19-year old Grace, with whom the reader immediately establishes a rapport. She’s the youngest on a bachelorette party and seems like she’s having the worst time ever and then when she tries to follow the pack into a bar, she’s carded but none of the other girls have cared enough to make sure that she got in. Her feet are blistered from wearing heels and she does the stupid thing we all say we’d never do but might be tempted to when we’ve had enough–get into a stranger’s car.

Enter Sara and Nolan. The one thing I can always count on with Griffin’s novels is that the leads are going to be appealing and they generally aren’t going to do stupid things. I loved Sara and Nolan. I loved that they had fun with each other and seemed to understand each other almost immediately. Nolan just seems so almost perfect (no one really wants perfect, right? 😉 ).

A forensic anthropologist heroine and a detective hero work together to track down a serial killer. It's a fairly straight-forward investigative RS with a romance budding between our leads, and as always I appreciate the forensic research. Both leads are smart, capable and efficient. After the last two overtly testosterone-fueled cop heroes in my last few reads, it's great to have a change of pace where this detective hero is still masculine/confident, but with a more empathetic/sweeter side and with great respect for his heroine and her capabilities.

Slow burn romance, because of her issues with relationships, but he's patient and gives her the space. Although their chemistry isn't as good as the other couples in the series, it's enjoyable/sweet enough and I do like the ending.

Laura Griffin’s latest release, Stone Cold Heart, was the stellar romantic suspense book I’ve been looking for. Featuring a brilliant forensic anthropologist and a police detective, Stone Cold Heart is intense and sexy, with a mystery and a romance that will keep you flipping pages.

Detective Nolan Hess contacts the famed Delphi Center Crime Lab upon the discovery of human remains in his district. When Sara Lockhart, the aforementioned forensic anthropologist, begins her study, they realize that they have a much bigger case/problem on their hands, and it’s related to a series of missing women in the area.

Laura Griffin writes romantic suspense masterfully. It’s evident that her books are well-researched. Her characters are smart and resourceful, all experts in their fields. The mysteries are well-crafted, each revelation in the case ratcheting up the tension and leading smoothly to the mystery’s culmination. And the romance is sublime, particularly in Cold Stone Heart. The attraction between Nolan and Sara is engaging from the start, despite/partially because neither one of them wants to act on it.

This was a fantastic book.
