Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book to my 9-year old, especially the prologue about the difference between folklore and mythology as well as the background of the Ashanti people of West Africa, well-written and just enough information for a 4th grader. The illustrations of this book contributed so much to this story about a father and his loving sons who go to great lengths using their specific strengths to help their father, who is in peril and in the end showing us how the moon came to be. A great read for any child.

I liked the chunky illustrations. Simple myth!

This story is by far one of my favorites and got it for my roommate's daughter from the library the other day. We read it together (and she read it later, and listened to the cd that came with it to follow along as well).

We got this one at the library for the kids. It's a great version of an Anansi story, with really cool art that evokes an African style. I grew up on Anasi stories as told by Len Cabral, local storyteller in the great state of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations; I'm glad my kids get to grow up with some Anansi as well!

Loved the prologue that could provide important background information to children who may be unfamiliar with African folk tales. The illustrations are simple, but appropriate as they are clean lines and bright colors that bring the reader's eye into focus on the story itself. It's a wonderful tale about the six sons who learn to work together, each calling upon their unique talent to save their father; it's also a delightful tale about the legend of the moon and how we all 'share' its beauty!

Great read-a-loud for preschoolers. Dramatic yet simple illustrations.

I love this tale about Anansi & his six sons. The younger children sometimes need help figuring out what the great globe of light is. 2/1/12

Use again this year for Story Time and a Kindergarten visit. I love using this with Raffi's Anansi and Spider on the Floor songs. 2/6/13

Fell back on this because the copy of [b:Diary of a Spider|21315|Diary of a Spider|Doreen Cronin|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1386924404s/21315.jpg|1505652] that I got through inter-branch mail had pages falling out. The bright pages initially caught the attention of the 2 toddlers sitting in on story time... 5/21/15

Used this for my African Story Time this year. One of the toddlers was very excited that she figured out that the great globe of light was the moon.
