Decent

I think I might just be too old to read stuff like this. I thought it was kind of boring overall but I understood where the author was trying to come from and how it could fit in with the day to day life of kids nowadays.

amazing. everyone should read this.

A great choice for readers aged 7yr and up. Lots of illustration break up the handwritten style text, so a good way to encourage less confident readers to have a go.

I read this when I was sleeping over at my cousins' house. (Along with the rest of the Wimpy Kid series. Yeah, in one night.)
I didn't think much of it. It was cynical and sarcastic (which I can appreciate sometimes, but not here). Not to mention that it focused on a main character with extremely low values. He had no appreciation for family or friends, and he seemed to be hating on Rowley (when he got popular) and Fregley. I almost wonder if most of Fregley's stories were fabricated.
My personal opinion? If I met Greg Heffley, I'd like to put him in solitary confinement. (OK, not that severe.)

A recent piece on NPR finally got me in gear to read this book. Man, am I happy I did! This is a hilarious "journal" (it's NOT a diary!) chronicling Greg Heffley's 6th grade year. Greg gets in plenty of trouble, not because he's like a bad kid or anything, but it's really because he's really trying hard to decipher this strange world of middle school and the rest of the world populated by grumpy adults and forlorn teenagers. A must read for anyone who remembers middle school/junior high as , for lack of a better word, "weird" time of life.
