4 stars!
This volume was a nice addition to the series! The art work by Kamome continues to be PHENOMENAL. But I felt like I was missing something in this volume. Dare I say this volume felt a little bit like filler??? At least in comparison to the other volumes.

We follow Coco and the gang as they deal with the aftermath of their harrowing survival of their interrupted test by the brimmed hats. Master Qifrey is recovering from his wounds and we don't see him at all in this volume. Instead we watch the girls explore the enchanted underwater Great Hall where young witches gather to study before they chose and apprentice. We meet the enigmatic Beldaruit (who has an awesome character design btw), one of the Three Wise Ones, and learn that he was once the Master of Master Qifrey! But it seems they had some falling out. I'm definitely interested to read the next volume and find out the history between those too. And just learn more about Qifrey in general. I didn't realize how much I really loved him as a main character until he was missing from the volume. The story just felt a little empty without him. I really hope he returns in volume 7!

"Remember, good ideas alone aren't enough to make good magic. It's a mix of ideas, technique, originality, and purpose. All four have to join hands and work together!"

This volume really hooked me back in to the series. Some really great character development and the authors ability to continue to providing ever evolving plot twists is truly exciting.
