I took a long time to get to this - a year after my super-cool brother & sister-in-law bought it for me as a Christmas present.

And you know what? I love The Boss more than ever.

This is a well written, considered, and intelligent read.

Fascinating if you’re a fan, fascinating if you’re interested in a slice of 20th century social history and popular culture.

Loved it.

Fantastic audiobook! Felt like I was having my own private conversation with Bruce himself.

i have days when my boundaries wobble, my darkness and the blues seem to beckon and i seek to medicate myself in whatever way i can. but on my best days, i can freely enjoy the slow passing of time, the tenderness that is in my life; i can feel the love i'm a part of surrounding me and flowing through me; i am near home and i am standing hand in hand with those i love, past and present, in the sun, on the outskirts of something that feels, almost... like being free.

I'm not a fan of his, never followed his career or listened to his music. So why did I listen to over 18 hours of him recount his life ? Well it was highly recommended by a reading friend. I was worried I wouldn't last 18 hours of hearing the same voice ramble on but I never was bored, or ready to shut him up. I am a fan of the man but still not of the music, sorry Bruce. He was brutally honest digging deep into his and his, his bands and his families troubles. I was entranced by his words and the emotional kick he put into his audio retelling. If you love a good story, give it a listen

Perhaps the only negative on this book is that nearly all of its readers will be Springsteen fans. It deserves a much wider readership.
Although I am a long-time fan, the exploration of relationships (and family in all its forms), along with the frank discussion about mental illness and depression, are not only exceptional, but they leave the reader with plenty to contemplate long after closing the book. In my situation, I found many of his observations to be not only spot-on, but helpful in my own relationships as both a son and a father.
Incredibly thoughtful and well done.
