Hilarious and poignant first collection from comedian Cat Cohen. This is sort of the perfect millenial poetry book. You will laugh at every one of these and at some of them, you will cry.

I enjoy Cat Cohen’s shows in NYC and I generally enjoy modern-girl poetry ~ this just didn’t rock my world like I hoped it might. There were clever bits, fun bits, shocking bits, a wide range of Instagram girl vibes. Very late 20s in New York which I can appreciate but a lot of it just didn’t necessarily feel like poetry to me…I was asking myself “ok but why this one?” a little too much. Totally my subjective opinion, I know! These poems have a stream of consciousness feel which I do sometimes enjoy. It was cool to see both sides of her, her confidence and uncertainty. The poems aren’t ever emotional but they are personal. An easy read, glad to have spent the afternoon with this, but not my favorite.

I wanted to see what a woman roughly my age has to offer and now I regret being a woman my age

i can’t lie and say these poems aren’t a little facile and self-involved and annoyingly glib or that they don’t read like what would come out if you fed the so-sad-today twitter and dasha redscare to a neural network. but i enjoyed them! plus like who among us doesn’t want to be “the first woman / in ill-fitting pants to be on an episode / of succession” ??? exactly
