I don’t want to be your girlfriend
I just want to be a student of english literature
wandering home late drunk in autumn
and anyways I’m an awful roommate
I don’t recycle don’t repeat that
the other day
I was dry-swallowing my birth control pill
as I citi biked up the williamsburg bridge
and I was like okay…
I guess I am the voice of my generation
this collection made me laugh out loud more than once. very fun and relevant. the style isn’t usually the type I’m impressed by or seek out in poetry, but Cohen satirises and plays with it in a very entertaining way.

Blunt, silly, and overall hilarious, this book seems to be joking about the actual genre it takes on. At the same time, Cohen reaches a level of emotional vulnerability that I honestly didn’t expect when picking up her work. Comedic sincerity of the modern age, at its finest.

Elegant and crass, whimsical and earnest, this delightful collection of poems by comedian Catherine Cohen shapes poetry into a form to reflect the contemporary experience of a young woman of today. These poems feel like a simultaneous satire and homage to the form, which makes for a collection to be read and re-read.

I love Catherine Cohen and her whole vibe to bits but this was a bit hit and miss.
