The St. Martin’s Press boycott is still in effect. The boycott began in October 2023 after a Wednesday Books employee made anti-Palestinian and Islamophobic posts on social media. Also BIPOC creators and authors brought to light that they have been facing unequal treatment via SMP. SMP has chosen to sweep it all under the rug instead of addressing it so until the boycott ends, I will not be reviewing this book.

3.5/5
A great series but the ending fell a bit short for me!
There was still a lot of back and forth between Rune and Gideon, which was still fun. My favourite part of the book was all the events that took place on the Arcadia.
*** SPOILERS ***
I thought they would both be more shaken up by Alex death, Rune was a bit at the start, but it fell away a bit quickly. I don’t remember reading much about being lied to or missing Verity, given she was her best friend.
Also, she keeps referring to Alex as her best friend, which makes me think it wouldn’t have worked out if he was alive, especially if Gideon was still around. Actually an alternate book where he did survive would be very interesting indeed.
Ending seemed to tie things up too nicely and quickly, especially the whole resurrection of Rune

Did I spend my whole day absolutely devouring this book? ABSOLUTELY. 4.5 stars. Dare I say this was significantly better than the first book which I loved. Such a great duology.

I absolutely loved this duology! I'll have to find pretty trophy copies to display on my bookshelf since I listened to these on audiobook.
