Review:
Vaughn has done it again in this second installment of the Relationship Goals series. I have to get on my pedestal real quick and say that I LOVE books like this which give the entirety of the plot, the conversations, the side characters, and all the little moments between big plot points the time and care that they deserve. You might be intimidated seeing a 600 page romance book, but once again the pacing feels perfect, you just absolutely race through the story, and it really feels like we don't waste much time. We get the perfect development from something akin to hate into a tender and caring love between the MCs, and I just adore the pace we go and the amount of moments we get to see. You really feel like where they end up actually makes sense because you see again and again how they develop their relationship. In this story, despite August's frustrations with Nico and his charisma, carefree attitude and blasé exterior, we see how he cares for Nico after his incident on the ice, the way that he is so panicked and worked up, and they way he slowly learns about Nico and the kind of person under the exterior. We also get to see Nico face many challenges relating to his health and image, and having August always there, not making fun of him at his lowest point, and constantly helping, and I just love how soft he becomes for August. I also absolutely adored the banter in this story! It started out as your normal kind of rivals-ish vibe, but once Nico finally gets wind of what is happening, the things that he does to August around Nico's family and other teammates is just so amusing, I had a huge, goofy grin for many parts of the story. I also really appreciated the angst and difficulty both of them faced. We have August's life falling apart around him for the second time in his life, and he is really struggling to deal with the fact he may very well have to give up yet another dream for his life, all the while feeling like a complete imposter in his situation, and also taking care of a person who he has previously not liked very much ,and who is going through a real tough time. And then we have Nico, who had a major major health scare, and he is really struggling with the arduous process of recovery, loss of things that used to seem so minor to him, and waking up with some memories missing. He has to confront who he has been as a person and what he wants from his life. But August is there the whole time with Nico, and I just so loved reading about them going through so much together. These two are just such a fun and sweet couple, and I love how a many number of things resolved in this book. I am also now very excited to get Felix's book next, I cannot wait to get a look at this childhood BF2L story! I definitely recommend this book, and I definitely think you should go in without worrying about the number of pages, but just enjoy this wild ride for everything that it is!
