THE HEAD GAME is the second book in the Relationship Goals series. It can be read as a stand alone without having to read The Husband Game BUT as always with connected series it does read better if you read in the order the author intended.
August Manning is an NFL referee. His dream was to play in the NFL but gave up that dream when he saw that being out in the league wasn't something you did. He gave up his dream and learned to live his life as a referee. He loved his job and was good at it. He was used to players making comments to him, about him and his calls. Nico Arents was one of those players always pushing August's buttons on the ice. When a chance meeting on the street on one of the worst days of August's life. his ex's wedding day, August gives in to Nico's charms and meets him in a hotel. August swears it's only going to be a one time thing...that is until August sees Nico seizing on the ice.
Nico Arents is the teams fun egomaniac, scandal causing playboy. August Manning isn't Nico's usual type but something about pushing the ref's buttons does something to Nico. Seeing August outside of the bar has Nico knowing exactly what he wants for the night. And Nico usually gets what he wants. After a fun night Nico wants a repeat but August is very against it. Nico has been feeling off but hasn't talked to the team doctor like he should have but continues to play. After a particularly hard hit and blacking out Nico finds out he has more going on than he expected.
Pretending to be Nico's finance isn't something August ever thought he would be doing but he had to know how he was.
Waking up after surgery and finding out he's engaged doesn't sound like something Nico would do but he just goes with it.
I loved seeing how this one little lie was going to play out and boy I was not disappointed. The slow burn of this relationship was so good. Their chemistry was always there and slowly adding all the emotions was everything!!
Vaughn is a new to me author and I am obsessed! When I saw The Head Game was being released I quickly read The Husband Game and was instantly so engrossed into this world. I can't wait for more from this series.
I was given a free copy of this book.

Loved!
I loved everything about this book! August and Nico had me from the very beginning and I just couldn't put them down. I loved the Skylar and Jules side story as well. Nico had me giggling throughout the book. I am loving this series and cannot wait for the next book.

I’ve loved Nico from the moment we first meet him and I was so excited when I realized he was getting his own book!
Him and August work so well together and I love their chemistry and the way they fight for each other!
