I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

I requested an advanced copy of this book after reading the first few chapters as a teaser. Clearly, I felt the book had promise. This story was about a female PR person for a professional hockey team, and her hockey-playing high school sweetheart who has just been traded and called up to the professional league from the minors.

I greatly appreciated having a professional female lead who worked in sports, was athletic, etc. The issue of the female dynamic on a men's team was part of the storyline, and felt realistic, as many of the interactions between the teammates.

However, most of the rest of the pieces in this book were pretty generic. The hero did not seem to have any flaws, the father becomes the coach of the team the heroine works for (in the first chapter, so this isn't a spoiler), the coach hates the old boyfriend, etc. The implausibility factor is put pretty high as well. Are we really supposed to believe the the old boyfriend who has always been in love with the girl hasn't been following her career and doesn't know what team she works for? That's just a little silly.

There was promise in this book, but it didn't manage to come together in an unique way.

Georgia and Leo dated in HS, but Georgia had a traumatic experience and she broke up with him. Fast forward, and Georgia is now a publicist for the Brooklyn Bruisers and trying to prove herself. Leo is called up from the AHL by the team's owner, but the coach--Georgia's father--lives to make life difficult for him. He's holding a grudge, and no one knows why. He's dead set against Georgia and Leo getting back together, and the countdown is on until the trade deadline when Leo could be traded away.
***
I'm rounding up to 4*s, but the book was more like 3.5*s. It was a little slow, and there were continuity problems. Sarina Bowen has come a long way since this book was written.

I read this book originally in September of 2016 and gave it 3 stars. After getting the second, third and fourth books in the series I decided to dive in once more. Only, I couldn't remmeber the first book! So naturally I re-read the first book. Which was decidedly rated down to 2.5 stars in my opinion after another read.

It was an OK read. It wasn't great. I liked the different back story between Leo and Georgia. It brought an interesting angle for the angst aspect of the story. I thought Leo was adorable at times and his complete confidence in how he felt for Georgia and that they would get back together and stay together this time was endearing. There were times after they reignited their relationship that I felt Leo came across a little immature for a twenty-four year old adult male. This was proved even more true while reading interactions with Leo in the second book [b:Hard Hitter|28869598|Hard Hitter (Brooklyn Bruisers, #2)|Sarina Bowen|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1466612763s/28869598.jpg|50874737] about Patrick O'Doul (Which I'm currently reading, and loving so much more so far). Add in Georgia's flawed decision making skills regarding Leo later in the book, and I was definitely not a big fan of her. I didn't agree with how she chose to handle certain aspects that cropped up toward the end of their story.
SpoilerShe was still healing from her sexual assault, I get that, but she also handled the possibility of Leo being traded immaturely in my opinion.

Rookie Move is a beautifully written second chance romance that follows Leo and Georgia, high school sweethearts whose lives were shattered by a tragic event just before graduation. Six years later, fate brings them back together as they find themselves working for the same hockey team.

Some highlights include -
• Dual POVs
• A heartfelt second chance romance
• Elements of hurt/comfort and healing
• Undeniable chemistry
• Wonderful characters
• A swoon-worthy male main character.

I have to say that Leo was absolutely lovely. His unwavering love for Georgia melted my heart, and every time he called her 'Gigi,' it made my heart ache. This is another winner in the Brooklyn Bruisers series, and I can't wait for Ari & O'Doul's story!
