Pretty spoopy!
Would have been better with some ginormous glory hole seggs.

Love love love! Absolutely disgusting and disturbing! You can actually smell the horror. Delicious.
The ending was unsatisfying. But this was gross in a funny way and eerie to read while there is a pandemic going on.
The short manga is absolutely terrifying! After reading it, chills continue to run through my body. The Enigma of Amigara Fault is horror in the truest sense.
Owaki and Yoshida are both traveling to the Amigara Fault on Amigara Mountain when they meet. Both, for some unknown reason, have been drawn to the mountain. The reason they have been drawn to the fault is absolutely terrifying.
The manga is only 33 pages but Ito does not waste a single page. I can see myself remembering this story for years to come. Ito relies on what I think one of our greatest fears as humans: the fear of being trapped in a small space. As the book gets closer to the end, the anxiety felt by Owaki and Yoshida about their inevitable can be felt by the reader. The feeling of the mountain walls closing around you is felt deep in you bones. It is nearly 12-hours later and I still feel it. The ending is what really made me love the story. Ito did not just let the story end with the of Owaki and Yoshida’s end. He provides the reader with a plot twist that makes it all the more terrifying.
A word of advice: Read this during the day with the light on.

Bizarre, creepy, and unsettling, this was an amazing horror experience. Ito has a great combination of everyday fears (like claustrophobia) that combine with weird goings on the create a relatable but also otherworldly experience.
The art style and stark lines create some very strong visuals, and compelling weird horrors.
It got me interested in more of the author's work and I can't wait to read more.

Als horrorverhaal - horror vacui pur sang - een luchtig tussendoortje met een existentiële inslag. Totdat je op de laatste pagina bent aanbeland, dan is het pas echt griezelen.
-
As a short horror story - horror vacui pur sang - a light-hearted existential enquiry. Until you reach the last page of the tale, that gives it all away in a sublime stroke of genius.

a good and classic story from junji ito, but I didn't find it quite as disturbing as uzumaki was.

Not very scary, a little spooky at first but it loses its touch when the hole that is carved out for the protagonist has the two little upwards-standing tufts of hair near his nape. This sort of implies that his hair retains the same gravity-defying anime-ness at all times... and the aspect of it just made me laugh. The thought of this mysterious force creating holes shaped after each individual human somehow opting to include those tufts of hair made me laugh even more. And that was it for me.
The rest wasn't really strong enough to pull me back into a tense state, so I also ended up finding it amusing that people somehow keep moving through the hole despite becoming deformed. I know it's meant to be visual/body horror and the logic doesn't matter, but I guess I didn't find the visuals scary enough to overlook it.
I don't think this needs a purpose other than being speculative and weird so I'm not docking any points for that, just for how poorly the tone is conveyed through the visual choices and implied logic.

THIS HOLE!! THIS WAS WAS MADE FOR ME!!
Genuinely creepy. And the body horror at the end is a plus (for me, anyway). Definitely one of my favorite Junji Ito tales by far. It's a classic in the genre.
