I reread, but one I remembered so little of it may as well have been a first read.

I love these books, I really do. The rich world-building, the messaging, the characters, the relationships, the story. The symbolism. There's beautiful and poignant quotes. I enjoyed that this book was told, largely, from the perspective of the Sainnites (Garland and Clement were the two biggest POV characters, eepecially in the latter half). I love all of it. It's fantastic.

And yet somehow, it takes me FOREVER to read these books. Nearly four weeks it took me to finish this! It never takes me that long to finish a fiction book. I have no idea why, when I love everything about the story so much, it is just such a slough to read. Is it the writing style? The pacing? I don't get it.

Anyway, it's excellent and I love it but goddamn. Nearly four weeks.

TL;DR: A weirdly structured but definitely well-meaning continuation of the fantasy series centred on the consequences of war

I remained fond of the world, characters, and themes in Earth Logic, even if the reading experience is still a bit weird. It defies clear narrative structure and we are intentionally kept at some distance from the main characters and their thoughts and feelings. The commitment to peace appealed to my sensibilities and I think was well handled even if it will be controversial (there is definitely an argument to be made that this promotes conciliation and compromise with colonisers). I enjoyed the new characters we got, adding a bit more perspective to this conflict, and actually found the ending to be remarkably conclusive and satisfying - very unclear where the series will go next.

It is such a joy to just be completely wrapped up in a story and its world, even if you're not sure how things are going to turn out and things are sad along the way. The second book in this series is just as engaging and interesting as the first, if slightly weirder and occasionally more confusing. But I love this world and these characters and the sense of kindness and generosity and optimism in it all. Great stuff. A/A-.

This sequel to Fire Logic is equally strong, and just as enjoyable. It carries the main characters forward into a new set of engaging and provocative adventures.

If there was a problem with [b:Fire Logic|644341|Fire Logic (Elemental Logic, #1)|Laurie J. Earth Logic reckons with that narrative and asks how to forge peace with a violent colonizer without resorting to the same tactics they used. The plot isn’t as gripping as the first book, since part of the answer is “decisive inaction,” and I didn’t fully believe some characters’ decision to

based on a reading of the glyph cards, which hadn’t been so blindly followed in the first book (IIRC). However, I enjoyed the introduction of two wonderfully complex new characters, Garland and Clement.

I was recommended this fantasy novel, the second in a four-part series, some time ago as a fictional treatment of peace processes. Unfortunately it is the kind of immersive fantasy that doesn't really grab me, so I've given up after 130 pages.

I'm very fussy about fantasy. The books in Elemental Logic series by Laurie J. Marks are superb fantasy, in my opinion.
