I read this book as an arc and think HK did a great job for her debut novel! This one has cowboys, rodeo, a smidge if spice and a roller coaster of emotions. Colter and Ellison were perfect for each other, both dealing with their own grief and finding comfort in each other. I felt like this book was focussed a lot on the rodeo component of the story so it took a hit longer to connect with the characters but by the end of the story I was rooting for them both.
If you enjoy a slow burn with a bit of open door spice then this book is for you. These two focussed on building their relationship with each other before jumping into a physical relationship so there’s no spice for the first 75% of the book but then the heat gets turned up.
I loved that HK was able to blend the angst, trauma, spice, grief and joy seamlessly throughout this book. It flowed really nicely and I loved that the characters changed throughout the book as time passed.

This book is the rodeo romance of all rodeo romances!! I don’t want to give anything away, so just trust me- you’ll LOVE it and want to read ALL of H.K.’s future books!! (This is her debut!)
H. K. Green wrote this story from personal experience growing up around rodeos, and you can tell. She also gives a glossary of rodeo terms in the beginning!
This story was so fun! I love me a good black cat FMC x golden retreiver MC. There are a few trigger warnings readers should be aware of, but overall, I absolutely LOVED Ellison and Colter’s story!!

“I pushed aside the thought of me falling in love with a cowboy. It was their lifestyle that cost my dad his life.”⭐⭐⭐.5 (rounded to 4!)
What can I say about this book? First, as a debut novel, the way H.K. Green conveys the emotions of Colton and Ellison is on the level of a seasoned author. I really felt Colton's fear and Ellison's grief. Secondly, the way the story unfolds is beautiful. The ending is... well, have the Kleenex ready! *Please watch your trigger warnings!

I can not believe this is a debut! This story had so much emotion and depth it broke my heart. These characters and how they were written was so beautiful and I loved how it all came together!
Ellison grew up around rodeo's but when tragedy struck her family she closed herself off from that world and kept her circle close. Colter's life is the rodeo. After a bad break up a few years ago he went down a dark path but he has his friends that are more like brothers and the rodeo to keep him in check. When Ellison and Colter run into each other its an instant connection, one neither of them saw coming. Ellison pulls away but Colter is determined to win her over. They learn to lean on each other and they soon heal each other in ways no one else could.
I adored these two together!! Ellison did not make it easy on him but Colter refuse to give up! I loved their banter with each other. Colter was so dang cheesy but it just made me love him even more! I loved that Colter never pushed Ellison. He let her come to terms with their relationship all on her own and they developed the most amazing friendship. They healed each other and it made for such a beautiful story. There were hard topics discussed in this book so I would read the trigger warnings but I think HK did a wonderful job and handled each topic with such grace. I went through all the emotions with this one and I loved it. Congratulations on your debut!
Thank you HK for this ARC!
