This was my least favorite James Patterson novel so far. It was historically inaccurate and degrading to the military. I was really disappointed. James Patterson should have done his research better. By the way, James, the army says "hooah" not "hoorah." It's little details like that that really got to me.
Wow. Maybe even better than Violets Are Blue. How do people in so called super max prisons communicate with each other and the outside world? I know it's just a novel, and not everything will be or should be exactly like real life, but so much of the Alex Cross stories does seem real, when the fantastic intrudes it takes and even more willful suspension of belief. Of course it is quite likely that super max prisons are not nearly as secure as we civilians are led to believe. Anyway, it was a rollicking good adventure and mystery.

I would officially give this book 4.5 stars. It definitely kept my interest the whole way through (like most James Patterson novels). But like most James Patterson novels, it is pretty one dimensional which keeps me from giving it the 5 total stars it could get. I love when authors bring in historical facts (in this case about the Vietnam War) and I also have a family member serving so this story felt a little closer to home for me. I will be continuing to read on in the Cross series - they are always entertaining and I can get through them pretty quickly.
Nothing particularly wrong with this novel that turned me off; I just didn't respond well to the story. Not my favorite Cross.
