a great book with a great message. truly fucked up contents that literally had me slack-jawed at times. i loved that the message is don't let the fucking racists win and essentially there is power in you and power in blackness. however, i felt like the writing style was juvenile and lacking at times which is why it's not 5 stars. that doesn't stop the book from being a compelling and slight heartbreaking read though

I was so angry. It was unimaginable to see this amount of racism… Yet it is still possible. The story of this school could happened and that’s what I’m most angry.
I loved the two main characters. They were so different, I liked it. I like how Chiamaka had to grow and really sees things.
Also, I really liked how the lgbtq+ topic was approach. It didn’t felt forced or abnormal. It was “oh yeah he’s gay” “ah wow, ok ig”
It wasn’t a perfect/exaggerated reactions but it also wasn’t an openly homophobe reaction. It was a normal one. Something we tend to expect in 2022.
I just didn’t like the end. She missed something. It felt rush. Everything happened but nothing was really explained.
what happened with twitter and the protesters? How the parents really reacted knowing what their kids went through? How Chiamaka dealt with grief? What happened with Belle? What’s the complete story? What happened between Terrel and Devon? So many things that could have been exploited

I also didn’t like how it took time for them to figure out why they were targets. How the never had the idea of talking to each other to understand until it was pretty much too late.
And, sometime, there were things that were pretty obvious
like Ruth, Ava, Jaimie being part of the Aces
But the characters catch it too late.
A part of all this, I was really into the story. Aces was mysterious and really too mean. Both of the mains had there things to deal with including the bullying things. It was a great mysterious story.

Wow wow wow! This was absolutely incredible - gripping from the first chapter, thrilling throughout. I can’t remember the last time a book made my heart palpitate and adrenaline rush through my veins like this.

Ace of Spades is a YA thriller novel, telling the story of two black students in an entirely white private academy who are targeted by malicious attacks and blasts, exposing their secrets and attempting to destroy them bit by bit. It gives you kicks in the stomach, makes you feel the tension, outrage and despair as this gossip Juggernaut tries to rip them to shreds.

But even amongst the enthralling and meticulous plot, the star of the show was the nuanced and effecting commentaries on racial injustice, institutional racism, homophobia, police brutality, classism and so much more. This book was an absolute triumph on all accounts and I cannot recommend it enough.

They say love and hate are the same, just at different ends of the blade.

Basically Pretty Little Liars but with white suprematism cult and hardcore racial bullying.
