WELL

I am very torn about this book. I was IN this book at the beginning, and I remained invested because I thought the world-building was interesting and pretty vivid for a (debut?) novel. I loved the characters, and the angst.

One big hang-up and one minor one.

For the minor one - Andrews doesn't know how to use commas, unless she's intentionally omitting them. It was occasionally distracting but not a deal-breaker for me.

The major one -

If you have an issue with miscommunication tropes, STAY AWAY FROM THIS BOOK. THE ENTIRE BOOK. ENTIRE. IS NON-STOP MISCOMMUNICATION. And at the end it's still there. I usually DNF books that could be shorter, or not exist, if the leads communicated. Here, it mostly makes sense because of the FMC's trauma. But man, it was really trying.

The FMC took awhile for me to warm up to. I get that she is naive due to her being an equivalent nun. Then there is that dreaded miscommunication trope that I dislike. At least their bickering is adorable. I like how playful the MMC can be. Cliffhanger is all about miscommunication and non communication. I want to finish the series and the overall arc, but not looking forward to more of the same.

Wonderful first book from a new author. The worldbuilding was great with the magic systems and monsters. Definitely some red flags from both leads like misunderstanding and lie of omission but the banter and relationship building is what kept me reading. I am excited for more books from these series so more mysteries can be unraveled.

🌍World building, Writing, and Pacing:
Amazing writing, beautifully written prose, great world building, and just a really well-built plot!
The pacing was brilliant, I genuinely couldn't put it down, I was so upset I had yo sleep! It's one of those rare books that starts glued into your mind no matter what you're doing. I genuinely kept thinking - I wonder what they're doing now, I think this may be about to happen - oh sitri would sooo have something to say about that...
🧝‍♂️Characters:
There are a couple of stand-out side characters we get to meet, and the main characters themselves are very enjoyable to read about - even the ones we hate! I love a good strong side character!
The main characters were really enjoyable to be with and read about, and they really fit perfectly into the story! I love their personalities.
There was a lot of miscommunication between the two main characters which I know a lot of people don't like but it's not because of immaturity or anything like that- it really suits this book and these characters also, it all makes sense as you keep reading too.
For such a long book there is little character development however I have litterally just become aware that this will be a 4 book series so I'm guessing we get lots more good stuff in the next books and I seriously can't wait!
💀WHY NO 5 STARS?
Most of the book takes place in 1 setting, meaning that some scenes were similar and left without much room to develop. That's the main flaw, I get why it had to happen but we could have done with maybe a better background / history or even just more detail on the royal family, the prince himself or something to seperate the scenes and keep some variety.
💯Would I re-read and Recommend?
Abso-bloomin-lutely! I will definitely be doing both! I truly enjoyed this book, all of it- apart from the ending. That I did not like because the next book isn't ready yet. I genuinely thought my Kindle was broken when I reached the last line! I kept trying to turn the page, which never came thinking,'That can not be where she is leaving us?!!'
🪧Final thoughts:
GIVE THIS A READ! There is so much to love about this book! Especially if you love a true slow burn, back and forth, banter, and protection.
It's one of my favourite books of the year! Personally, I'd love a ton more spice in the next one- especially the way keri writes about it! My god, it's like passion meets hunger meets taking what you need meets a gentle loving hand that know how to please their mate!

 My Rating Systems:
⭐️ DNF
⭐️⭐️
I managed to finish it but it was rubbish. I won't keep a physical copy and won't recommend it, but  it's a shame as the plot could have made a good book in another authors hands
⭐️⭐️.5
It was OK. I wish i didn't start this one as It didn't do it for me as I struggled to read it. It had an interesting premise that fell flat but I had to see what happened in the end.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
I don't regret reading it, and I will read the next one, but this one did have a few flaws. [These could be repetative writing, gaps or plot holes, better character growth or world building, areas needing more detail]
Generally, the book lacked depth and became confusing. The plot resonated with me even though it annoyed me on the whole.
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to the right people but I wanted more! Sadly, it's easily forgettable with a few issues I just couldn't overlook/get past.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Good book! I loved it, but... I needed more! I really did enjoy it, but it had a few parts that needed more detail or added history/background or lore. But that's because the story or characters were memorable, and the plot was strong with brilliant twists. I would re-read if I needed to catch up for the next book and would recommend.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Great book! I truly wish the story had been thought about more, or the author had been given more time as this book is so close to brilliance! I will likely read again and will definitely be recommending to all!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
WOW! Absolutely amazing book! Well written with great characters and a plot so memorable that it will stay with me. I will definitely read this again, I will be recommending it and sharing it with the whole world! Also- I NEED A PHYSICAL COPY!
🔥⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🔥
This is my God level tier. The book must be perfectly memorable, even after reading 50+ more books, I will remember character names and emotions along with the plot. If there is a special edition, then I need to own it! If there is a conversation on books- I'm talking about this!
🌶️– segsual language and a little on-page action
🌶️🌶️– a lot of segsual language and some on-page open door action, may be occurring a couple of times
🌶️🌶️🌶️– a lot of explicit action and dirty talk, occurring frequently with 2/3 lurvers
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ – super graphic and explicit, occurring 4 or more times, can be more grey and taboo themed.
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ – Kinks and Fet!shism, explicit and super graphic. It is likely to be tushy play, toys, play rooms, and more darker / taboo fantasies and realities.
