Jade Daniels I clocked you day one. I love lesbians. Anyway I know some people will say oh Jade goes on these rambling tangents in her head and to that I say don’t read a series where you don’t like the main character.

I don’t say this lightly, but I think Stephen Graham Jones’ talent for writing gore descriptors is some of the best that I’ve read. Multiple times each chapter I’m either laughing nervously or muttering, “Grossssssss” or “Aw dude, what the FUCK?”

So you know it’s good ;)

“I used to be all about the final girl standing on top of a pile of the dead at the end of the movie, her face dripping blood, her chest heaving, her eyes fierce. Now I’m all about holding the door of the slasher-proof shelter open, so everybody can duck in, ride this out.”

This won’t be a long review because I honestly cannot tell you really what happened in this book. Believe me, no one is more disappointed than me with this low rating I have to give this book. I loved book one and really enjoyed book two, but maybe this should have been a duology because not only was this last book not great, it also felt unnecessary.

Just like most slashers, this lost its steam after the second installment. We spend a lot of time in Jade’s head in this book and while I never minded it in the first two books, I hated it in this one. Jade goes on all these tangents that just aren’t necessary and really bogs the story down. I also felt like I never understood what she was talking about and what was even going on in the story. This was a bit too nonsensical for me, especially with it being a book that was supposed to wrap up a series.

It wasn’t all bad, hence why it’s a 2 star and not 1. There were these moments where I understood what was going on and it was interesting, but those moments were too few and far in between. I did like the way the whole story ended, with the exception of the fate of one character. I still love SGJ and his writing, but I wouldn’t necessarily read this series past book two. If you absolutely loved the first book, you could honestly stop there and be fine.

I do want to add that please don't read this book without reading the first two. Giving a book in a series a low rating because you didn't do your due diligence of making sure it wasn't a standalone or the first book in a series is unfair.

CW for death, violence, and blood.
