Listen, listen, listen... At the beginning of the book I was not feeling it. I couldn't stand Kidan and how she was so "I'm not like other girls" but then, after 200ish pages. Holy shit. She's amazing, and dark, and broken but now healed. Holy shit!!! If you don't like Kidan in the beginning, she's definitely a grower not a shower. Now Susenyos...oh my dear Lord that I don't even believe it... The way I had to fight to keep all my clothes on while reading this anytime he even opened his mouth. FUCKKKKKK I need him carnally. I want him to rip me apart with his teeth. I cannot get enough of this fucking vampire. I neeeeeeeed the second book now. Soooo many twists and turns. Just wow. Only reason this isn't getting 5 stars was bc how slow the beginning was. Everyone say thank you Tigest Girma for the sexy ancient vampire who is rough and loves calling our lead filthy nicknames😩😩😩are you not interested yet? You need to experience Susenyos stat!!!! Also look at tws, this is very dark. Low-key a dark romance I'd say.

Check your trigger warnings before starting this book, it is (as the author has stated) dark.
I did enjoy the first half of the book but the middle lagged and by the end I was having a hard time with the prose and characters.
The setting was dark, gritty, and very well done. The laws given to the school and its alumni was really interesting. I loved that Kidan was there to learn and reclaim her history. However that never happened.
Ultimately Kidan made one weird decision after another to the point where I was no longer shocked by her actions. Instead of the characters growing in their power or utilizing the information learned, they just killed their enemies and acted shocked about it for a minute.
The ending wrapped up well with an interesting layout for book two but I don’t think I will be recommending book one until after I read book two.

Kidan is just completely insufferable, one note, and impossible to root for.
