4.5 stars: I really enjoyed this book, but I have to say that I didn't enjoy it as much as the Percy Jackson and the olympians serie because of a certain person that's missing. But then there was Leo, an awesome new character who definitily recovered a LOT of the sorrow. I love you Leo!

When I was growing up, my favorite series was the Percy Jackson series. After re-reading that series, I decided to take a stab at Heroes of Olympus and I have been pleasant surprised so far. I normally hate split POV, but Riordan did it well. I never once struggled to follow or felt like the split pulled me out of the story. All in all, I loved this book and I don’t feel bad when I say that The Lost Hero is on par with Percy Jackson. I’m excited to read the rest of the series!

people say that you can't start this book without reading the older ones and that this is for a younger audience and im here to give my thoughts on that as someone reading it as a 16yr old, attempting to read this book for the first time, without having read the previous series.
you can start this without reading the Percy Jackson series, there are references but its not that hard to figure out.
the book is for the age group of 12+, and I'm 16, so its obvious that i didn't love the writing style. the first chapter or two were unbearable. i have read middle grade books and still liked them at this age but this was just not it. thought it would be ok since the characters are all 15 or older but that wasn't the case. i focused on looking up the references to Greek mythology to distract myself from the writing so that helped.
the plot is interesting, im not gonna lie. predictable but still interesting.
it uses a lot of common tropes but again if its for someone who is younger i don't know if they'll mind that. there are lines like boys liking shopping is suggestive they're under a spell that just did not sit right with me, but well most people would say I'm grasping for straws.
