While I did not grow up reading Tuck Everlasting, I did grow up with Gilmore Girls and the film version of the book, so when I saw an ARC available for the 50th anniversary edition with Alexis Bledel as the narrator, I jumped at the chance! My kiddos have also had this book assigned as summer reading so I wanted to be able to enjoy it along with them.

I’ll be honest in that I think it’s one of the few books where I actually enjoyed a movie version better-it seemed to capture the ethereal and whimsical quality of the woods, while also painting the genuine haunting quality of the spring that granted immortality. The age gap between the 17 year old Jesse who is smitten with 10 year old Winnie makes me wonder why we are still giving this book to children.

That said, the writing and plot was still great for a middle grade book, and Alexis did a wonderful job of narrating.

Thank you to MacMillan Audio and NetGalley for providing this copy for my review. All opinions are my own.

For like the fifty-millionth time. I love, love, love this book. Only a few hundred and thirty something pages long, this book has been probably on my top three faves of all time. I don't know why I decided to read it again, but I couldn't help it and finished it in less than a day. It's fascinating. The story of the Tucks has captivated me since the first time I read it back in sixth grade. I'm pretty sure that no one else in my English class from sixth grade has ever touched this book again. Or maybe I'm wrong, but I could damn well bet on it. Anyways, read it + love it.

this was my favorite book as a kid and i found it at a thrift store for a dollar and change. the thought of immortality really tickled my brain as a kid i guess. i remember checking out this book from the school library countless times.

5/5 stars for nostalgia and 5/5 stars for the message that we need to live the life we have in the short amount of time we have it for

What if you could live forever?

This classic novel is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a new audiobook edition narrated by actress Alexis Bledel. This was a re-read for me and I enjoyed it again. Alexis did a great job narrating and she was very pleasant to listen to, her voice is very calming.

If you have never read Tuck Everlasting, you should, but a short synopsis is a 10 year old girl named Winnie Foster meets the Tuck Family who drank from a spring and can live forever.  We follow Winnie’s adventures with the Tuck family, but soon a man in a yellow suit shows up searching for the Tucks, and he will stop at nothing until he finds them and uncovers their secret.

I enjoyed the story of Tuck Everlasting, but I do wish it was a bit longer. I feel like things wrap up quickly and more should have happened in the plot. That being said, I think you should give this classic a read/listen in September and enjoy the audiobook with Alexis Bledel.

Thank you Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

A classic such as this needs no introduction, and there are plenty other reviews much better than mine ever would be. That being said, it is a very good book, and the prose was easy to follow and imagine. I just wish there weren't so many logical flaws in the storyline, why aren't there countless forest animals and insects  roaming around the area? Secluded though the spring may be, it seems a little hard to believe so few creatures drank from it.

This is a great read. One of my favorites that I read growing up, that made a deep impression on me as a child. Revisiting it in adulthood gave a new lens to some of the lessons but didn’t change the impact that it had overall. A great book, one that I consider a classic.

on my list of classics in English that I wanted to read. In a simple but compelling style, appropriate for a younger audience, Ms. Babbitt asks the ultimate philosophical question: is it worth it to live forever?
