This book is a coming-of-age novel in verse that does a few time jumps and covers a lot of issues with identity from family to sexuality to race. I wanted to appreciate it more than I did. Some parts were beautiful and I would really be enjoying the book, but then other parts felt disconnected and ground the pace to a halt to the point that it was a struggle to keep reading.

felt very 'meh' about this through-out the whole of this book, but the ending really packed a punch! it was strong and containted some great lines. I got 'perks of being a wallflower' vibes from the narrative, and i get that this book can be really comforting to young queer and black queer people so i love it for that! it wasn't enterily my thing, but it reads very fast and is a great book to get out of a reading slump or something i think :)
