This wasn't one of my favorites, but I did like how the weapon was planted. Again, I had no idea who did it, so that's always a good surprise, but it didn't really hold my attention like others have.

“Someone with ideas - ideas of the present day. Keeping what is wise from the past, looking forward towards the future.”

Unfortunately this one had a bit too much foreign affairs that lost me a bit + for a Poirot book: had a tragically low amount of Poirot. As a story on its own, however, I was very invested and enjoyed it.

This Poirot novel has been criticized by many for not being Dame Agatha’s best work, but I quite liked it. I’ll admit that the ending was wrapped up in a neat little bow in a bit of an offhand fashion. But the mystery itself was fun and engaging.

The orientalism in this was not it.
I love how the only two characters I suspected both ended up being murderers.
Overall this was boring, the only interesting characters being Julia and Jennifer to an extent.
I did enjoy the discussions about childhood and how it’s parameters/what is acceptable or not acceptable for a child to wear or do is to a degree a social construct, that differs between cultures. Although the discussion on ‘middle eastern culture’ was very orientalist.

Listened to this one, also, and while I am always a sucker for boarding school mysteries, this is a legit good mystery. One of my fave Agathas.
