4 stars. A sweet, relaxing read that felt like a breath of fresh air. Four friends decide to move out of London to the outskirts and DIY their village home. The "Lavender House" becomes a communal project that brings them closer together and gives them the space to grow.
Our narrator, El, is in love with Ray, her best friend and one of the Lavender House members. In all-too-familiar sapphic longing, she pines for Ray as she struggles to find fulfillment in her career, put words to her feelings, and discover what makes her happy.
I genuinely enjoyed this book and the light comedy it brought to a tale of friendship and yearning. It was also lovely to finally see the typical queer 'joke' - "let's all get a commune/run a cafe/bookshop together" - enacted in a way that focuses on fulfillment and love even beyond a typical metropolis.

So good. The British English threw me off at the beginning, but the characters are incredibly lovable, the adventures are sweet, and we should all want to live in a queer commune in the countryside. This is such a good book if you miss your friends and want to fantasize a little, if you want to quit your job, if you're twenty something and don't know what you're doing. Be wild. Love your friends. Say what you mean.

A delightful hug of a book with a queer collective in the English countryside I'd love to visit. And the chickens! Plus admitting your feelings for someone. Fun, quick read
Wild Things by Laura Kay
⭐⭐⭐
A big thank you to Netgalley and Quercus books for allowing me to be a ARC reader of this book. Although I gave it a low rating I found this book a easy light read. A perfect filler book for a reader who likes to read heavy stuff.
I believe the main reason I didn't rate the book higher was down to the man characters behavior around certain situations. El came across a lot more Younger than how I thought she would.
However I did enjoy the group aspect, especially since it contained a lot of the LGBTQ+ community. The idea of them going in on a house and renovating it together was also enjoyable.
