Even better than book 2! And the narrator of this book is much better than the person who did book 2. Lots of character development. I got a true surprise in chapter 28 of the audio book. That doesn't happen often. Like book 2, the three main characters spend a lot of time separated from each other, but it works well. The writing continues to be very good. This is a series i find myself looking forward to every time i have a few minutes to listen to it. Even though the books are long, it never becomes the drudgery like the Wheel of Time books so often did.
So I am still enjoying this series, but I cannot help but notice how many parallels there are between this and the Wheel of Time series (for example, Rand is the car'a'carn and Richard is the Catharine, both are supposed to be the leader and savior of a lost people). That is a little disappointing and makes me annoyed with the series at times feeling it is less than original.
I'll admit I didn't read the whole thing - got to chapter 2 and got bored. I made it through the first two books just fine but I can't stand the Sisters, so... Sending this one back to the library!

I hate how this man writes women and I hate how he’s constantly torturing them with sex and violent rape and revolving their entire characters around sex and jealousy generally. BUT the books are just so fucking good. I was so stoked on the end of this novel, everything coming together and happening all at once. So much suspense and mystery and frustration and annoyance. I love the banter and the silliness and the very dark and evil parts. It’s a good fucking series. I can’t get over it. Enough to make me forget all the rape, incest, carrying nipples around in a bag, and ridiculous amount of titty torture.
Also want to complain about the direct word to word translating going on of ancient languages. That’s not how it works.

This book more so than any of the other two makes it obvious that Terry Goodkind is a pervert. I have defended some other books from similar criticisms like The Witcher which is a lot more subtle because it's not so much scenes that are misogynistic but just descriptions. Here, Terry good kind just unrelentingly portrays women as weak and as a reward for men to earn. This is disgusting and it made it really hard for me to get through this book. I don't really have that much to say that's new with this book that wasn't in the other two. It's still unoriginal, it's still blatantly cliche and trope-y, conflicts just resolve themselves out of nowhere still, and there are no themes anywhere in the text.
I have three things I can compliment for this book. Firstly, The characters are pretty well thought out, at least the male characters. And secondly, it's pretty well-paced. I mean it's really well-paced. Even if I didn't really care about what was happening there was still always things happening and developing which I have to respect on some level. Goodkind actually knows how to start a book, which sounds like a really flat compliment but compared to a lot of fantasy which really struggles to get going his books always start right off the bat and I have to respect that on some level. My last positive comment for this book is that it was a big battle that was really good. It wasn't mind-blowing, it wasn't Sanderson level but it was pretty good compared to everything in the last two books.
This was my favorite out of the three so far, but it was still pretty goddamn bad. Even if I look past the sexist portrayal of women a lot of it just feels bland. Even if it had moments that were redeeming to some extent this is still not a "good book". I'm struggling to decide whether giving this one or two stars, but because I feel nice today and because it is a pretty big step up from the first book, I'll give it two, albeit a very low two.

This one started out a bit slow especially the parts with Richard trying to unite the different peoples, lands, etc., but the last third of the book was fantastic. My favorite parts mostly involved Verna and the Sisters of the Light/Dark plot. So glad Gratch survived!
