“How beautiful is her unshakable sleep.” A simultaneously poignant and irreverent collection of poems, it helped me grieve the loss of my 15yo pup and remember the joy dogs bring. “It is almost a failure of will, a failure of love, to let them grow old—or so it feels. We would do anything to keep them with us, and to keep them young. The one gift we cannot give.” The penultimate piece has so many interesting insights about the nature of dogs and how they relate to us and the world.

If you like poetry and you love dogs, read this book. It’s so sweet and thoughtful, and I found myself tearing up a few times. It made me want to hold my pup a bit closer and thank her for being my best friend.

Tl;dr: Dogs are the best.

Absolutely a gorgeous way to describe the relationship between a human and his dog, for he doesn't own that dog as a possession!
Though I don't know much about taking care or having dogs at home. I could only feel the author feelings all the time! I thought she must have loved her dog so much!
Her feelings and the way she writes the poems made me relate to them, though they are about dogs, one can see them happen between people!
Most of the poems are straightforward telling a story, and others they tell something important and those I liked more

I recommend it for dog lovers, I am sure they would love to read the feelings of another person who is so devoted to his dog!
