let’s say like a 3.75 maybe. i did eventually get invested, but some parts were boring. i enjoyed baz and his character, emory a little less so. i think the character im most interested in is kai (am i sensing something between baz and kai because i need that more than emory and him.) interested to see how this continues.

I should’ve known I wouldn’t break the 3-5 curse (I read 3 books that are 5 stars in a row but never a 4th that also is) but had fun still.
This is the perfect book for people who liked If We Were Villains but then became interested in witchcraft.
It got a little boring by the end but honestly, I think most people would see it the other way around
(Hi, nice to meet you. I don't like action, description of physical movements, etc)

Never before have I read a book so dark academia personified in literature. And this cover art. THIS COVER ART. I would die for it. I have the B&N special edition, and those sprayed edges- mmmm, so beautiful.

Ok, getting what I have to say about this that’s not so good out of the way first- this book could have been about 200 pages shorter. It was one of those reads that took me FOREVER to get through the first 200-250ish pages (a week? which is really long for me) and then I sped through the last 350ish in a couple hours. The 200-page mark was also where I started sort of annotating and tabbing on a whim,
which I hardly ever do. Anyway, back to the parts I didn’t love-

The length.

Lack of Kai. Pascale gave us, what, 3 encounters with Kai’s general awesome sassiness? I needed more. Fingers crossed he’ll have more of those moments in Stranger Skies.

Here’s a problem that has pretty much nothing to do with the book and more my brain- how loveable Kieran was up until, well, y’all know. My thinking he was hot blinded me to how messed up the scene with him, Baz, and the book was. Bro has problems.

Emory's character was a bit bland. Her constantly being jealous of Romie in the first half got tiring really quickly.

Now that I’ve gotten those points out of the way, it’s time for the fun part!
THIS MAGICAL WORLD IS SO AWESOME. I don’t think you properly appreciate it until you’ve looked up what moon phase you were born under and the tide placement at your time of birth. The first website I checked dared to be wrong, but I finally got my actual result and was not happy. I’m an amplifier (I think I could still be wrong). Petition for there to be a Curious Tides official website with a tidal alignment calculator.

The sprinkling of mystery masterfully woven throughout this book was perfect. It fed my needs as both a murder mystery type thing and a fantasy. As I mentioned earlier, I love Kai, and between him, Virgil, and Baz, the boys in this book have my heart. A major cliffhanger (wouldn't it be nice if memorists were real and they could just wipe that word and its meaning from author's minds?) and unresolved feelings/unrequited love means I just can't wait to get my hands on the next book in this series. Stranger Skies, here I come!
