First off I found this novel in one of my favorite places a little bookstore located on Vancouver Island BC. I kinda have a thing for all things ocean and this cover grabbed my eye & I’m so glad I picked it up. Seriously this book is gorgeous inside & out.

I loved this dark academia novel with its unique magic system based on moon phases & tides. It’s full of magic, myths, legends, mysteries & secret societies. I really enjoyed these complicated characters. Emory & Baz are flawed & have a complicated friendship. Baz is Emory’s best friend’s brother. And after a deadly accident with Emory being the only survivor she starts to develop unusual powers. I loved watching Baz & Emory trying to solve the mystery behind the deaths of their classmates. We get both Emory & Baz’s POVs. And there is even a bit of romance with a love triangle. This book starts off a bit slow as we come to know these characters, the magic & the world. But I enjoyed the moody vibes & was totally invested in this story. The second half was full of twists & turns & kept me turning the pages. Seriously loved the ending that left you wanting more. I can’t wait to dive into the next book. Heads up for some swears and a fade to black scene.
