the tone in this series is significantly darker than just about any other i've read from the Krakoa timeline, with more horror elements than i'd gotten used to with x-men reading. in general i'm not wild about the story, though i'm happy to see domino and quentin quire get time on the page. also? wtf, xavier has a digital currency??

I wanted to go to 4 stars, because I really like the Hickman-led era of the X-Books - and this was a stronger installment than Marauders or Excalibur or New Mutants, but there are some character problems.

X-Force is the mutant hit squad, doing he wetwork that is too grisly to take any kind of responsibility for. They're framed as the Krakoan CIA. We're very familiar with the title - once, it was the best X-Book being published (with Remender writing).

This time, however - we're supposed to buy Jean Grey being on that team, and even worse (somehow) Beast leading them. Beast killing the children of diplomats to wedge control and compliance. Guys, what?

Other than that - we have Forge using Krakoan technology, Sage being the Athena to Domino's Hercules, and Kid Omega getting decapitated and Wolverine chopped in half. Again - Guys, what?! - but in the good way :)

I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes. I really appreciate the Hoopla app, and my library subscribing to it, because there's not a chance that I could read all the books in this line otherwise.

Given how little of the new X-Men books I've enjoyed, I was pleasantly surprised by this series. It is dark, political, and despite the immense power of the X nation, it actually felt like there were high stakes in play. It will be interesting to see if the series can keep up this kind of action and suspense.

Probably the worst of the Hickman-era X-books. Depressing and a drudge to get through

I put off reading this line bc I've been missing the 2nd issue for ages. I finally just bought a digital version, since none of the local comic stores ever seemed to have it, and read the whole thing in one sitting.

This is a fantastic (and surprisingly gory) entry into the X-men series and I *might* even like it more than the main line that Hickman is writing. (Not Hox/Pox that brought us to this point - that was amazing) I like the 4 main characters that make up the X-force - Wolverine, Beast, Domino, and Jean Grey - and Sage is a nice addition as well. The story is more 'realistic' in what the mutant vs human fights would probably look like, and it's nice to see that Benjamin Percy has a clear plan.

A solid Dawn of X book. It is just as concerned with Krakoa as the other books. The political and ideological maneuvering is what makes this book interesting.

At the end of the first issue Xavier is assassinated and the next four issues or so begin from this development. All of this forces the new installment of the X-Force team to be formed.

I enjoyed this. Especially the art by Joshua Cassara and Stephen Segovia. The action is quick and purposeful but still enjoys itself. Wolverine is enjoyable but his presence is pulled back which is nice. Beast is unlike I’ve seen him before but watching the characterizations change after the island state of Krakoa has been one of the best things about these issues so I’m interested to see the evolving nature of Beast and Domino.

Overall a solid book I enjoyed reading very much and am excited to read volume 2 of.
