This book is essentially a prequel to Lassiter's book. I read this book when it first came out, but I didn't really remember anything. The main couple are not Ward's best work. The side characters and Lassiter's story are the reason to read this book.

I'm super excited to start Lassiter's book, because I know it's going to be a rough ride emotionally and otherwise.

First time I've ever given such a low rating to JR Ward book. I just couldn't get into. The relationships seemed fake, and forced. I didn't even finish. So sad.

I decided to read BDB #19 and #20 without going all the way back to the first book to refresh my memory because it’d take too long. I probably should have started a few books back because I forgot a lot of characters and storylines. I now also have to go and read the Fallen series since it’s tied in but I didn’t really enjoy those books too much previously.

The books aren’t as good as they used to be but I’m still attached to the characters and I can’t resist coming back whenever a new book gets released.

I was really excited about this book because I liked Balthazar and I was pleased to see that there would be a love interest who had some background and personality since she was in the previous book. But omg this was dull.

*heavy sigh* I think it’s time I retire my attempt at finishing this book. It’s my first official DNF and first JR Ward book I haven’t finished. That’s saying something because it took me at least 2 years to finish the Chosen because I utterly despise Layla! I’m really sad I can’t seem to finish this one because I wanted Balthazar so freaking bad it’s insane. The book drags on and to many scenarios happening in one. Also, I made the mistake of reading the comments here and taking into consideration that she brings back an utterly despicable character that we’ve already gotten rid of makes it even harder for me to continue this book.

There’s also seems to be a point of contention with how she wrote Davina and what she does to both Balthazar and Lassiter. At first, I thought maybe Ward wrote it as a play on like a succubus? But the fact that both characters keep telling Davina ‘no’ and to get out of their minds it borderlines on severe invasion of privacy and consent.

Maybe one day I’ll finish it but it seems like that day isn’t today, tomorrow, or anytime in the foreseeable future.

I love JR Ward and I will forever love this series  but I didn't love this book.

This was not a quick easy read. The author had so much detail, so much going on that it had to be savored. This might have been Balthazar and Erika but it was so much more.

The reader learns more about Devina. I do not like that Demon. I do not like her at all. She is URGH!!!! I just can't go into her ickiness or I will be ranting all day. She doesn't care who she destroys. When her destruction was at its ugliest I cried for someone I did think I ever would.

I finally learned more about Rahvyn. She is a very unique character. She is so lost in this new world. I am looking forward to her in future books. I hope she will be in future books.

Now it is time to listen to the audiobook. I am expecting nothing less than amazing.

Perfect timing! I finished listening to Lover Arisen on release day for Lassiter. Lost of thrills and way more chills as the demon tries to get what she wants. She searches for love in all the wrong places with no respect for human life.

Loved Lassiter in this book. He really showed that he had compassion and didn't always have to egocentric. Now to see what Lassiter gets into in his story.
