This was a fun listen, although it felt a little long. I love the Sherlock Holmes and Watson characters, although I've never read any of the books before - I've only known them through TV and movies, my favorite being the Cumberbatch/Freeman duo. I will definitely be listening to more of them (I hear Stephen Fry narrates some!) but I doubt they will ever rival my TV favorite. Same brilliant characters, without the racism and misogyny - although to be fair, neither was too bad, considering their era.

DID NOT FINISH: 30%

I mean, I don't know what I expected. Thicker skin, maybe. But I deal with enough upper-class White men who think they're smarter than everyone, so I really have no energy to be dealing with them as protagonists in fiction.

Haven't read many mysteries. Nothing to compare against, but pretty good.

As far as detective stories and murder mysteries go, that is definitely not the most page turning book I’ve ever read (but I just read Christie’s The Murder of Roger Ackroyd so I might be a bit spoiled). It’s also not the best Sherlock Holmes I read so far, but the book is quite nice. To me it mostly scored in atmosphere and setting (dark moor, old mansion, a family mystery!) which is why it was fun to read. I’m also not embarrassed to say that I woke up 4:30 this morning to listen to the audiobook during a thunderstorm to make it more atmospheric. That was pretty cool!

3.5 stars!

It was pretty good. :)
