This was EXACTLY what I wanted it to be. I finished reading it this morning, curled up in my armchair with a spring thunderstorm outside my window.
The story is classic Sherlock Holmes, the characters well-drawn if simple, and the descriptions enjoyable. I loved every bit of it.

I enjoyed it and it was fun overall. There were moments when you realise there's a formula to these stories - I'm hoping that isn't the case for the rest of the Sherlock Holmes series when I go through it.
Also, it did forecast some of the reveals or twists. As soon as the shadowed figure on the tor appears after Watson and Baskerville were chasing the escaped prisoner, I knew that it would be Holmes and that he'd been at the moors all along. Did figure that it was Stapleton who had some involvement early on but admittedly thought Dr Mortimer might have too (like a conspiracy among the neighbours deal).
But that said, still had that bit of excitement when Sherlock re-appeared.

A great story. Not my favorite from Sherlock Holmes' adventures though.
Doyle's classic remains universal in its originality about family curses and a demonic hound.
