This book was so different to all the other books in this series , so different and unique and a total mindfuck but I loved it!! Will read anything this author writes!
I don't know when I have agonised this much about a book review. I tossed and turned all night. I have thought of nothing else all day but Lily, Holden and his best friend Ryan.
Mia Sheridan is such a talented story teller. From the moment I read Stinger, I've been addicted to her unconventional, sometimes life damaged characters. They have made my heart soar and sing as well as sore and sad.
Midnight Lily from the beginning gripped me in the same way. Holden mixed up, messed up, grieving for his best friend Ryan. Blaming himself for his death, he is sent to sort his head out and clean himself up in the wilderness. A true Boy Scout adventure.
Is the goddess in the dress with long dark tresses real, or is she a sprite, a ghost, a fairy? Mia excels at the sweetness of falling in love and with gentle steps Lily of the night and Holden God among men - fall for each otherly deeply.
Holy freaking plot twist at 53% had me going to bed. Great, great, great twist - smack in the face, never saw it coming, kind of twist.
I had issues with some parts that followed which is why I couldn't give the 5 stars that I have given all of Mia's other books, but nevertheless, it was a gripping, thought provoking read. At the end I wondered if I was the one who lost my way, where would I fly, where would I land?
And of course it did make me think of my lovely Adam in American Horror Stories - spooky house!
My favourite virgoan quotes:
"I fell to my knees under the silent judgement of the moon."
"Sometimes I don't feel like I'm part of the world. I don't feel like my life is...real."
"I dreamed of her, and in the darkness, she held me in her arms. In the darkness, she whispered that I was strong enough to hold on, that I was worthy of the love she'd given, and she reminded me who I was before I was anyone at all."
"We don't have a choice in the burdens we're given to bear, but we do have a choice in how we hold them. We can strap them to our backs and walk through the world hunched over under the weight like someone who should spend his or her days in a bell tower. Or we can stand tall and straight like one of those African queens carrying a woven basket on her head."
"If you get lost, I will find you."

Rating: 3.5 stars.
Now that i've finished it, i'm actually really impressed with the concept of this story. The second half of the book felt a bit too messy which is why i've lowered my rating but if you're looking for a unique romance with some twists along the way, definitely give this one a go!

The story and writing are lovely, but I think I need a guided tour through the end, because I'm totally confused. What was the truth?
This story is so beautiful and so confusing that I still don't get what was real and what not. It did make me smile and sad in the same time. It also makes me think a lot... Loved that book :)
I have read other books by this author that I really liked, but this one really isn’t doing it for me.

*le sigh.....* This is a hard one to review without spoiling. I know, that's what everyone says, but it's true. Let's just say that I understand what was trying to be done here. I really do. I love different kinds of romances with characters that are "flawed" or "broken", but it was just the execution of the whole thing. I agree with others that the last half of the book it just went down hill. The twist was ok... I just didn't see the point of it though. A twist for twist sake. I just..... I had to remind myself that if this wasn't a Mia Sheridan book, would I be so conflicted about how I felt. And that answer was no. I applaud her for trying something different but it just didn't work for me.
