Midnight Lily

This is the first Mia Sheridan book that left me confused at the end.

Throughout the story I bounced from 3 to 4 back to 3 and then back to 4 stars but the epilogue made me question what was real and what wasn't.

The first half of the book felt unreal... It felt too easy. And then WHAM halfway through we got a shocker and that became a nice game changer. I can't tell any more details than that without spoiling the book. But then once I felt like the story was ending nicely the epilogue threw me into "confuddlement"!

Not my fave and I definitely wouldn't recommend this if you haven't read Sheridan before.

That twist!

I was absolutely shocked. I really didn't catch on to the mental health issues of both characters until it was literally thrown in my face and I like how it brought a different feel to the book.

There's spooky vibes in Midnight Lily. An abandoned institution, dying animals and a girl in white dress meandering around the woods. Obviously the hero is drawn to the wandering girl in the white dress from the start. They both have their own battles to overcome and when they first meet, they live on this perfect bubble until things go very wrong.

The ending seemed rushed. The butler could have had more screen time to get the full creepy effect that he was giving off and this played a massive part in explaining Lily's mental health, which I think it fell short on because I still really couldn't grasp it.

Overall I really enjoyed Midnight Lily and it was a great audio book.

This is my first M. Sheridan’s book that I’ve read. Characters are done well, mental health aspect was interesting to explore in this romance. There was one interesting plot twist, but other plot parts were way too predictable. The execution towards the end could be better.

I am not really sure how to review Midnight Lily. I really enjoyed the story, it was not what I was expecting going in, but I feel like if I talk about it at all it will just spoil it for others. Which I don't want to do. This is a hard one. I don't know that I have read any other books where I struggled so much to come up with what to write in a review. It was an unique read for sure and you should probably just go read it for yourself. It was a fun adventure.

The story opens with Holden being dropped off at his friends remote cabin to detox and get his act together. He is spiraling down and is going to lose everything if he doesn't straighten up. Not that he seems to care that much, but still. He doesn't expect to see anyone else while he is up there, he should just be focusing on himself, but then he sees her. The girl in the woods. The girl who is a mystery. Who is she? Where does she live? What is she doing in the woods?

Oh this was an interesting read. I really enjoyed it and when I got to the end I had to jump online and see if I could find other people to talk about this story with. Normally I write my friend while reading a book when something crazy or fun or heartbreaking or whatever happens, and with this story I did, but they were so vague. Just Eek! Stuff is going on with characters! You must read this book so we can discuss!! Since I can't really say anything more than what is in the synopsis I will leave it at this - go read this book. This story is not something I have read before and I'm still thinking about everything that happens. Oh it was great. Go. Read it. Then you will be in the know.

First I want to say this is the third book I have read by this author. I enjoy reading books by this author. However, I did not enjoy this book. Let me rephrase that. I did not enjoy the ending to this book. The rest of the book was somewhat enjoyable. The ending ruined it for me. I liked the characters and the story but the twist at the end completely destroyed the illusion and concept of the storyline.

If you know anything about mental illnesses you wouldn't think it a romantic story when you reach the end. It was actually devastating to me to think the characters lived the way they did.

Let me preface this by saying I am a HUGE Mia Sheridan fan and I will read anything and everything this author writes, but this book wasn’t it. I thought based off of other reviews that the initial confusion I felt at the beginning of the book would clear up midway through, but I just kept getting more and more confused and frustrated as the book went on. I don’t think the storyline is as well developed as other books by Mia Sheridan and the ending honestly left me feeling empty and with even more questions than I started out with.

This is going to be the shortest review simply because there isn't a whole lot that I can say without giving too much away.
I can't tell you about the characters, who I loved. I refuse to tell you any of the plot, it's brilliant. And I don't really even want to tell you how it made me feel, I felt ALL of the things. This is just simply one of those books that you have to go into completely blind in order to fully appreciate the story in all of its wonder.
This book was such a surprise but nothing short of the brilliance and beauty I've come to expect from Mia Sheridan. I'm left both impressed and scared of her ability to write this story in such an amazing and clear way. I know that I'll be thinking of this story and these characters for days, weeks, possibly months and can't wait to see how other readers react to it. So GO. PRE-ORDER IT. NOW. And then when you read it come and message me so we can talk about it!!!

description

"I dreamed of her, and in the darkness, she held me in her arms."

Midnight Lily is a very unique love story. I haven't read anything like it before, and it was full of twists. I love Mia's writing and adore each and every book she has written so far. She really created a very original story with imperfectly perfect characters.

"Happily ever after doesn't mean a lifetime of perfection."

This book had such a mysterious feel to it, and it had many plot twists. There were some times I was a bit confused but I like books that keep me guessing. It wasn't predictable at all. Both characters have been through a lot in their pasts, it really broke my heart reading those scenes. Their love isn't perfect at all but it is just perfect for them.

"We will never be perfect or without flaws, the lives we've been given are not like that. But, Lily, in my heart, you are perfect for me. Perfectly mine. And I'm yours."

I will not go into detail because I think the best way to go into this book is BLIND. You will have many questions throughout this book.. For some you will get answers to others you won't. The writing was great and I really liked that we got both characters' POV. The reason for why I didn't give it 5 stars is because I don't know what to think of the ending of this book. I need some time to process it! I am looking forward to Mia Sheridan's next book! EDIT: Had some time to process and decided to rate it 5 stars! <3

"Where do you land? In your arms. I land in your arms, and you land in mine."
