This book was just okay. The pacing was a bit slow and parts of it felt repetitive. I guessed who the culprit was pretty much right away, but there was one surprise about who was responsible for some of the past events. I'm not really sure why this book is called Whiteout. Maybe it's some sort of difference in translation or something.

🥶 T H R I L L E R T H U R S D A Y 🥶 featuring “Whiteout” by Ragnar Jonasson!

BOOK REVIEW: 🖤🖤🖤🖤/5

Police Officer Ari Thor Arason is back at it again in Book 5 of The Dark Iceland series!  This time investigating the mysterious death of a woman who was found at the bottom of a cliff in a deserted village a few days before Christmas.  The KICKER: both her sister and mother were found dead at the SAME spot 25 years earlier.  Was this suicide, an accident OR something much more sinister??

The history of the village and the lighthouse come from a long line of dark family secrets.  When blood is found inside the lighthouse it becomes evident that SOMETHING happened before the woman went over the cliff.  Will Ari Thor find the killer in time before someone else ends up dead??

The suspense builds slowly in this book, but in a masterful way!  With Christmas approaching, it adds to the desperation to close the case before the holiday traditions begin.  The balance of MURDER and MYSTERY mixed with the approaching holiday adds to the CHILLING tone of the book.  I only have one more book left in the series to read, “Winterkill”, and I hope to get to it next month!

⁉️ WHAT are some of your favourite wintery reads??  If you enjoy Nordic noirs, please recommend me a couple!

Picked this book up and it was a good decision to do so.
This book made me travel all the way up to Iceland and it's inhabitants.
I loved all the details about this book from the pretty cover to the map of Iceland provided inside.
The whole story unravels nicely and builds up at a nice pace. I love how we're introduced to the woman who is later found dead. It gives us a nice insight into her personal life and creates a sense of mystery and attachment to her.
The police inquiry was nicely written and the protagonist are described in a way that you feel part of the story.
It took me a while to guess the actual murder motive and only guessed it a few pages before the actual revelation.
Overall this was a great book and I understand that there's more books in this thriller series.
A definite nice read, it's only 214 pages long so it's a nice short thriller for anyone who's looking for a nice quick read.

Interesting read and very atmospheric. The characters come off a little cold and distant and I'm not sure if that's a translation issue or the author's style. Either way, it was a fast, enjoyable read.
