3.5 I struggle w this format but the book is very well done & worth the read

What a start to 2020 reading! This book is everything I want in a book — the characters are so interesting and their stories are intertwined in a way that wasn’t too complicated that I lost track but not obvious either. The ending was perfect. Will be thinking of this book for a long time to come.

Should have loved but only liked this one. I thought there were too many characters. I didn't have trouble keeping them straight, it was that some of the chapters felt like character synopsis, not really part of the story.

we get it you hate teenagers

idk i REALLY don’t fw books like this like they’re literally made for people who just discovered racism/sexism yesterday

and there’s only so many scenes of sexual abuse i can read

there are some fantastic reviews on here which REALLY go into depth about the pitfalls of this book and i rlly rlly enjoyed reading them

By far the best book I have read in 2020 thus far. I can see why it won the Booker!

Girl, Woman, Other reads like twelve interconnected short stories of black British women. Bernardine Evaristro is a great story teller full of humor covering critically important issues. The portrayals vividly demonstrate sexual identity reaches far beyond biology. Great book I highly recommend.

Unfortunately I could not connect with this book at no fault to the author. I really value character development and need to spend a lot of time with a character to begin to connect with them and their plot. With the short-story set up of the women of this book, I just didn’t “get it”. Feminine themes are typically something I enjoy reading about, and I would’ve loved to have had a whole novel with some of these characters.
