if meursault was a kpop fan

I only got halfway through and usually that's not enough for me to mark a book as finished but I'm Done with this. It made me feel stupid like there was some secret deeper meaning I was not getting, but when I read the line "the man's own lips suggested that if he had labia, they'd be parched and aloof" I realized it was not I who was the problem here.

This was fucking wiiiiiiild my dude. I loved it. It had all the pretension of someone who is familiar with a thesaurus and all the depth of a newly formed puddle. I truly believe the author has read a lot of fan fiction because this was a homage to some of the best and worst that I’ve read. The way the main character was both completely featureless but utterly self absorbed? Chefs kiss. The prose walks the line between stating things poetically sparse and not saying anything at all.
I pitched this for bookclub and they were worried about the bad reviews and we went a different direction. I figured the bad reviews were from people who didn’t “get it,” and I still stand by that.
Was this the best book I’ve read? No. Would I recommend it? Only to a specific audience. Will I be talking about this and thinking about it for months and possibly years? Yes. It was very unique and I loved reading it. Very enjoyable.

tried desperately to finish. the story is not for me but some of the descriptions are really compelling (tldr skilled writer, maddening book)

it is an accomplishment though to make so many characters j hinged and still be able to somewhat pull it off

This book bruh. Nothing really happens, and the stuff that does happen is a fever dream told in poetic language. The whole thing feels like reading from behind a frosted glass wall. I couldn’t be fully *in* the story because it’s so bizarre. That being said, some of the obsessions she goes through are very relatable lol
