At NO POINT did this plot go where I was expecting it to but I was living for the drama!! Also very pleasantly surprised by how the whole *betrothed to the wrong person* aspect worked itself out--that's a trope that can go wrong for me super easily, but I loved it here and it resolved early enough that the main couple really was able to develop on their own.

A sincere thank you to Edelweiss for the ARC. I squealed when I found out I was approved for the digital review copy!
Eloisa James is one of my favorite romance authors and her latest exemplifies all the reasons why I adore her work. There's just the right amount of angst, drama and sumptuous clothing in this terribly romantic story of a blunt American heiress and smoldering Duke. Secondary characters were also appropriately delightful and distasteful making for such a diverting read. I'm a bit sad I finished this title so quickly! More please!

Kept me guessing

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved how each character learned something very true to themselves, and brought out the best in the other... in the end.

Review - Not my favourite of Eloisa James's books, as I thought that the beginning was a little slow until she got rid of Cedric. After that it became more interesting and the story began to move, which I had felt was lacking before this point. Predictable at points, but it doesn't stop this book being a thoroughly enjoyable read about an American out of her depth in Regency England and unsure how to behave. I really liked both Merry and Trent, but I HATED Cedric. Normally I don't get that strong negative emotions about book characters, but I did with Cedric.
