I was disappointed in this book. It was Amazon's 2024 #1 book of some group, so I had exceptionally high expectations. The book is very interesting, but I have no idea how it was chosen #1!!

What many in the hearing community consider a roadblock, actually aided this remarkable deaf football team to an incredible quest for the state 8 player football team championship two years in a row. I learned some history of deaf language education, much about social stigmas, and the fact that many are just fine with their deafness, refusing cochlear implants. The camaraderie within this football program warmed my heart. Way to go Cubs!

I lived in the Fremont, CA area 30 years ago, where I studied American Sign Language (ASL) under the wife of a former headmaster of the Fremont School for the Deaf. The school was incredible! We attended comedy shows, festivals, and various celebrations within the deaf community there. This book was a wonderful tribute to that community! I gave it three stars because, while I enjoy football, the intricate descriptions of the plays were a bit overwhelming for me personally.
