A really descriptive portrait of the sidelines of American politics at the end of the Vietnam war. In terms of breakfast food something cool like a cigarette and like a bar of chocolate.

Another Didion gem. I read this in Thailand and it fit.

Can’t believe this book is not more talked about. As a Didion fan, I had not even heard about it before stumbling upon it in a bookstore. Some of the most beautiful writing I have read in a long time.

When I started this book I was not sure I could finish. It’s a lot of names and relationships and the Joan Didion appears on her own pages and I was like, WHAT AM I READING?! But I preserved because Didion just has a way. And it’s my favorite Didion book I’ve read? I think it is. It is.

Gorgeous one of a kind sentences. Such a unique rhythm to many of the sections in this one. I thought the metafictive aspects work but I am biased as a Joan super fan.

Lovely prose and daring narration. Don't really know what to make of the story. Overall I liked it but I wish there was something more concrete.
