A great book to read (especially while touring Jordan!). An amazing true account of a women's life being totally transformed by a chance encounter with a Bedouin in Petra.

I enjoyed reading about the life of the author, but found it repetitive in some ways. Hard to imagine that anyone could just leave their way of life for another quite so easily (as it seemed) despite the initial attraction to her husband. I feel that the author must have had a strong desire to escape from the world she was living in and be able to immerse herself into a totally different culture

It’s a sweet story of love, adventure, adaption and challenges. I was in Petra recently and met Marguerite so this book held an extra special place for me.

Having visited Petra last year our tour guide told us about this book and I finally got round to read it. It's a great insight into Bedouin life and culture.

I started this book on the plane on the way to Jordan and finished it after I returned home. It gave insights at both points (pre and post) of my trip. It is a very in depth portrait of a foreign woman who comes to Jordan as a tourist, marries a bedouin man and her journey as she becomes part of the bedouin community at Petra.

Great

Was very enjoyable and was a nice perspective of how they lived in Jordan prior to my trip. Easy read.

Okay, I liked this book. I heard about the author many years ago when I found myself in beautiful Petra. In many ways I found it hard to believe the author, honestly. It’s really hard to believe that she managed to like and enjoy her life so much considering all the differences between the bedouins’ culture and her Western attitudes and upbringing. A lovely memoir which made me learn more about bedouin culture and made me remember amazing moments in the desert.
