There were some really insightful essays in this collection, and it was curated very thoughtfully. As a whole, this made me thinking so much and reflect upon my own experience. I particularly liked the essays about The Birds and Us, though there were so many that were incredible. The last two essays, I did not love however. Specifically the essay on Child’s Play. It felt very insensitive, had little to nothing to do with queerness (or the intersection of queerness), and left a very bad taste in my mouth at how the adopted son (clearly a child suffering from quite a bit of trauma) was directly compared to Chucky. That one could have been left out. Overall though, I still learned a lot!

so sad about this one but was really repetitive and not even that focused on horror, more like “i’m queer and i like this movie, but i don’t really draw many conclusions between why i like it and how it’s shaped me!” you can just call it “queer reflections with a mention of horror here and there”

This was interesting, thankfully I was aware of several of the movies,/books discussed and it kind of makes me want to rewatch through a different lens.. except I'm not really a horror person lol.

I love you gay people.
I love you horror.
This is going on my bookshelf as soon as I can get my grubby little mitts on a physical copy.

Just finished this and it's sooo good! I gave up following along with the movies bc a lot of them are hard to find streaming for free. You don’t need to follow along tho. It was so good. I liked that the only thing bringing them together was the fact that the essays were by queer authors. It spanned such a variety of topics and experiences and I found myself connecting with things that I didn't even know I connected with

If you’re gay and a fan of analyzing films, this book is perfect. Bringing multiple queer, trans, and POC perspectives “it came from the closet” reviews and dissects at least one (if not all) of your favorite horror/thriller films.
Most importantly it allowed me as a reader to connect with each essay. Feeling heard and seen for finding comfort, entertainment, representation and inspiration in the genre is prominent in these essays.
