3 stars. The book didn’t pick up until about page 150, and it was easy to put down before then. Thankfully the pace ramps up. Some cheesy parts at the end but still a decent conclusion. Definitely a protagonist that was hard to cheer for because of her never-ending recklessness, though I suppose one could blame the trauma. Anyway, not a bad read but not my favorite from Sager.

I was gobsmacked by the twist at the end. I was convinced it was Sam/Tina the whole time and then you find out it was COOP. THE WHOLE TIME. THE WHOLE TIME.
3.75 stars
Sometimes thrillers can start off slow but I was hooked on this one from the beginning. HOWEVER, I figured out the twist. So I’m basically a detective

3.75; a little slow in parts and a little predictable but enjoyable
I'm a huge Riley Sager fan and this was a letdown. I know it's his first book, so I will give some grace for that, but it was super predictable. The main character, Quincy, was so obnoxious and unlikable. The whole book seemed to read like a YA novel, in my opinion, which is fine if that is what you're into. I'm glad that I didn't start with this novel because I probably would not have read any more Riley Sager.
How absolutely and utterly horrible. As soon as I read the line basically saying “these girls had only been raped, they didn’t know what it was like to lose a friend” I kinda knew this was gunna be shitty. It did also motivate me to look up the author only to find that it’s a white cis man using an ambiguously gendered pen name because of course it is. And the twist was so ham fisted and unearned I can’t believe I gave this book so much of my time. Cannot fathom what people were smoking to rant and rave about how good this was. How disappointing.

pros- liked the twist and ending with it
con- took nearly half the book for the plot to pick up and for it to be enjoyable; didn’t like the character being such a drug addict; the writing style wasn’t my fav
