3.5 ⭐️ I’m a fan of Riley Sager books and had this one on my shelf for a while to pick up. The beginning to me was pretty slow. When Sam showed up I kept thinking, “why is Quincey letting this total stranger off the street move in with her and her boyfriend??” I get that she knew of her as a final girl like her but seemed bizarre. The story picks up more towards the middle and I liked learning more what happened in the past with the flashbacks. There were a few twists but I didn’t feel the butterflies you get from a good twist. Excited to read more of Riley Sager’s novels!
Fast. Twisty. Stressful. A great thriller with a little slasher gore. Great way to start 2025
This didn’t live up to the rest of Riley sager's books! Something about this story and the reveal felt so laborious. There were too many red herrings and when we got to the reveal I just didn’t care! but I really do love their writing, it’s so descriptive and powerful. I’ll definitely keep working my way thru the discography lol
2.5. The ending was meh. I want to like Riley so bad but the way he portrays women is just offensive and sexist. Most of his female protagonists are promiscuous and clueless. Lots of slut shaming and catty behavior. I wish he would write books from a male perspective so he would actually know what he’s talking about.

i originally gave this a 4 stars, but i'm putting it back down to a 3 because i let this marinate in my brain for a bit before i reviewed it and i can't really tell you what happened anymore so it obviously wasn't memorable. LOL. i didn't NOT enjoy it, so i don't think it deserves less than a 3... but... i finished it yesterday and i'm already forgetting stuff about it lol.
sager is good at thrillers! i've read a hand full of sager and i enjoy it every time. i know he isn't everyone's cup of tea. i remember really disliking the characters, but being stressed tf out in the last 25% (that's a good thing, i was into it). it was enough to keep me engaged, but i usually finish audiobooks much faster than i did this one.. do with this information what you will lol.
