Of course, it was unavoidably biased. Tbh, I mostly felt sorry for the author's wife: she doesn't see her husband for years, and then he writes a book in which he's constantly mooning over some other woman. He also puts himself into the victim position too much. Personally, I read it for the train wreck and that was good.

Berger writes this account of a convoluted and chaotic moment in Broadway history with a compelling honesty and raw introspection. However, for reasons I can’t quite pinpoint I was never really WOWED and felt like I was slugging through. I think this is a worthwhile read for those with an interest in theatre and at minimum a preliminary knowledge of the subject- everyone else will probably find this pretty confusing to navigate. No regrets reading, but not going to be gushing about it either.

3.5 stars on this one for me. I was really interested in learning all about the drama behind this show, but found myself liking the book less and less as it went on. You could tell the author still felt conflicted about his role in everything and his relationship with everyone, so he came off as a victim and naive at parts. You knew this wasn't going to be an unbiased telling, but as you keep reading it becomes harder to trust the story.

I’m so glad this book exists, because I saw the show in previews way back when and I was half convinced it was a fever dream at this point in my life. But it’s also very clear that everyone involved with this show (including the author) was an egomaniac who had no clue about what a Spider-Man story should entail. Instead of creating a spectacle with classic characters, they for some reason added in a random made up Greek mythology character that was almost more important than Green Goblin or even Peter Parker.

But I’m not reviewing the show, because that would be 0 stars, so the book is a 4.
